Eire Constructions was engaged by Central Coast Council to deliver a major stormwater infrastructure upgrade at Berkeley Vale as part of Council's ongoing capital works program to improve the reliability and resilience of its drainage network.
The project involved replacing ageing stormwater culverts with a new, higher-capacity drainage system, increasing stormwater conveyance by approximately 30 per cent and enhancing the long-term performance of this critical community asset. The scope also included watermain diversions, new pedestrian pathways, upgraded bus stops and full asphalt road reconstruction, delivering improved infrastructure for both motorists and pedestrians.
Constructed within a highly constrained urban environment, the project required careful planning and staging to ensure the existing stormwater network remained fully operational throughout construction. Eire implemented a two-stage construction methodology, enabling uninterrupted drainage while new infrastructure was installed alongside the live system.
The project presented several technical and environmental challenges, including managing groundwater and tidal influences from nearby Tuggerah Lake, undertaking deep excavations, protecting high-risk underground services including high-voltage electrical infrastructure and high- and low-pressure gas mains, and implementing robust environmental controls to manage hazardous materials and protect local flora and fauna.
Working closely with Central Coast Council, utility providers and the local community, Eire maintained safe pedestrian and traffic access, minimised disruption to surrounding residents and businesses, and delivered the project to a high standard of quality.
The completed upgrade provides a more resilient stormwater network capable of supporting future growth while improving flood performance, enhancing community infrastructure and delivering long-term value for Central Coast Council and its residents.
