Hunter Water identified that the Cessnock project was needed to cater for population growth of an additional 5800 properties by 2030, reduce customer impacts from low water pressure and to reduce the risk of major water supply interruptions to customers in the Cessnock region.
Eire Constructions were awarded Phase 1 of the Cessnock Trunk Watermain upgrade which incorporates the final design, supply, installation, construction, testing, restoration, commissioning and documentation for the project. The project included ~2.12km of DN500 water main from Dudley Street through to Mount View Road, and the demolition and remediation of the redundant Cessnock 1 reservoir.
Hunter Water added additional scope to the Eire Constructions project to extend the pipeline along Lochinvar St from Wollombi Rd to Bellbird Heights’ Reservoir.
The project had challenges such as variable ground conditions, proximity to the local community and surrounding existing infrastructure. Eire assigned a dedicated community engagement officer onsite to liaise with stakeholders, manage pedestrian and traffic changes on TfNSW roads and support after hours notifications.
By combining strong planning, certified management systems and an empowered project delivery team, Eire was able to mitigate risks, maintain safety and environmental compliance and is on track to deliver a high-quality outcome in a challenging environment.
