Eire Constructions was engaged to deliver the Gordon and Horton Street Signalisation project; a major urban infrastructure upgrade. It was designed to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, road connectivity, and essential water infrastructure within a busy urban corridor. For this community, this was more than a standard road upgrade. The project addressed several long-standing infrastructure challenges, making a pivotal change for the local community and surrounding businesses.
The works included upgrading under-capacity stormwater infrastructure, improving water quality entering nearby waterways, enhancing ageing water main services, and reconstructing the failing road surface along this critical arterial carriageway. With these upgrades, additions of new traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, and associated civil works were also delivered to improve safety and reduce congestion in the area.
The much-needed part of this project was minimising risk and disruption for the local community after the ongoing challenges caused by the previous dysfunctional infrastructure. Eire delivered complex civil infrastructure works within a live urban environment, successfully executing careful planning and strong stakeholder coordination with Council, utility providers, businesses, residents, and the wider community. Transparency throughout the project helped the community feel supported from start to finish.
That proactive, community-focused approach earned excellent feedback from Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and surrounding businesses. It further reinforced Eire’s reputation as a trusted civil construction contractor capable of delivering critical infrastructure projects with professionalism and care.
As part of Eire’s core, environmental responsibility remained a key priority throughout the project. Eire implemented innovative erosion and sediment control measures to protect surrounding areas. Improving environmental outcomes for local waterways during construction was vital. It was this commitment to sustainable construction practices that saw the project recognised as a finalist in the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Earth Awards.
The Gordon and Horton Street Signalisation project demonstrates Eire Constructions’ ability to deliver complex urban infrastructure upgrades that balance safety, environmental responsibility, community needs, and long-term infrastructure performance.
