Project Overview

Eire Constructions delivered the Macquarie Street and Station Street Stormwater Rehabilitation and Renewal project for Hunter Water Corporation, delivering critical upgrades across two locations to renew ageing assets, improve drainage performance and reduce flooding risks for surrounding communities.

Delivered within established residential and urban environments, the project required careful design development, construction staging and stakeholder coordination to navigate constrained work areas, existing utilities, traffic interfaces and the need to maintain access and essential services.

At Macquarie Street, Eire renewed approximately 230 metres of an existing 3m-wide x 1.5m-high culvert and completed concrete remediation and repairs to a further 288 metres of existing culvert infrastructure. Eire delivered the detailed design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of the new stormwater infrastructure, including associated pits and inlet works.

The scope also included the adjustment and relocation of existing water, gas and stormwater utilities, grouting of approximately 190 metres of abandoned culvert, internal culvert repairs and full reconstruction of the road pavement. Significant excavation and civil works were carefully staged within the constrained residential corridor, with traffic management implemented across a critical TfNSW road to maintain access and minimise disruption.

At Station Street, Eire designed and constructed stormwater upgrades to address critical defects within ageing infrastructure that posed risks to public safety and contributed to frequent localised flooding. Works extended across Alfred, Ada, Grove and Tighe Streets in Waratah and were delivered within constrained urban road corridors.

The design solution was carefully developed to accommodate limited road widths, shallow existing assets and constrained grades while maintaining service continuity and minimising impacts on the surrounding community.

Community engagement was an important part of delivery across the project. Eire’s coffee bus initiative provided residents with an approachable way to speak directly with the project team, raise concerns and understand upcoming works, supporting positive relationships throughout construction. A strong focus on proactive documentation and quality assurance also supported efficient project close-out and high-quality handover outcomes.

The Macquarie Street and Station Street project demonstrates Eire’s capability to deliver complex stormwater rehabilitation and renewal works across live urban environments. Through integrated design and construction expertise, careful staging, stakeholder engagement and disciplined construction management, Eire delivered long-term solutions focused on improving drainage performance, extending asset life and strengthening the resilience of critical community infrastructure.
