Eire Constructions was engaged to deliver the civil, mechanical and electrical infrastructure required for the installation of a new destratification system at Pindari Dam in northern NSW.
The project formed part of a WaterNSW and DPI Fisheries initiative to address cold-water pollution and improve aquatic habitat downstream of the dam. The new system uses a bubble plume to lift colder water from the lower levels of the reservoir, encouraging vertical mixing and oxygenation. This process is designed to improve reservoir water quality and increase downstream water temperatures, creating more favourable conditions for native fish recovery and supporting the long-term resilience of the aquatic ecosystem.
Eire’s scope included the construction of approximately 2 kilometres of aeration pipeline and associated diffuser system, incorporating both land-based and marine works. The project also involved construction of the compressor site and switchroom, mechanical and electrical works, ancillary cabling, network upgrades, SCADA and PLC integration, testing and commissioning.
Delivery of the pipeline required a combination of open trenching, above-ground installation and marine-based pipe works, supported by pipe welding and stringing, erosion and sediment controls and subsequent site restoration.
Eire’s involvement extends across the full project lifecycle, from programming, management planning, stakeholder and community engagement and Aboriginal participation through to design coordination, procurement, construction, systems integration, commissioning and final works-as-executed documentation.
As one of eight priority dams identified for this type of intervention in NSW, the Pindari Dam project represents an important step in developing sustainable approaches to reservoir management. The project will provide valuable insights for future destratification initiatives while delivering infrastructure designed to support improved water quality, native fish populations and ecosystem resilience.
