Mid Coast Council has selected Eire Constructions to deliver stages 1b, 2 and 3 of the Wingham Road upgrades in Kolodong, NSW. The growing population in Kolodong has led to a need for safer road conditions along the 1.8km stretch that links the area between Wingham and Taree.
This project will include the construction of three new roundabouts, kerb and gutter installation, and upgraded side street access for local residents.
The biggest challenge of this project will be managing the two lanes of traffic which can see up to 1,600 vehicle movements during peak hours.
"This project has been designed with road users in mind. We've developed a comprehensive plan that will minimise disruption to traffic while the roadworks are being carried out."
Ian Doak, EIRE Project Manager
Outside of this mammoth traffic management plan, our crew will also be rebuilding sections of the creek that currently runs underneath the road during winter conditions, working with wet sodden ground, and managing the movements of complex services, including water and sewer, electrical and communication lines.
This project will also include the use of recycled road, saving around 8,000 tonnes of materials from going to waste.
Once completed, commuters and residents will experience safer road conditions. The project is due to wrap up in March 2023.
